A Winnipeg food packaging company becomes the first Manitoba company to receive the highest recognition for global food safety standards.

Since this year Color Ad Packaging – the company that manufactures packaging for confectionery such as Lindt and Godiva – has been certified according to the Global Food Safety Initiative according to IFS PACsecure and thus fulfills internationally recognized requirements for food safety.

Chip Batten, President and CEO of Color Ad, says this not only added to their security standards, but also improved their business.

“I think it has improved our understanding of what it takes to run a good, well-run organization,” he says. “I think certification itself obviously helps us at Walmart and Target and Walgreens and all these companies, but it has helped us even more. I think it made us a better company, I think it made us more aware of what we do on a daily basis. “Basis and what is right and what is wrong.”

Batten says food safety is very important to consumers, which in turn requires packers to focus on food safety.
